Wiener Neustadt is a small town with approx. 45.000 inhabitants. The town was founded 1194 with money from the ransom paid by the Englisk king Richard the Lionheart. In the 15th century it became residence of the Habsburgian (Fredrick III and Maximilian I). In the 19th century the town became an industrial center, with sugar, textile, machines, locomotive, airplane and caar industry. This is the reason that Wiener Neustadt was the most destroyed town in Austria after World War II – only 18 houses remained undamaged.

Today Wiener Neustadt is a modern town and an educational center with many upper schools, technical and economics schools and Austria’s first and largest Fachhochschule for business and engineering, the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt.
